Protecting What Matters: Our Response to a Recent Break-In

At Element, we’ve always prioritized the security of our customers’ bikes and our inventory. Unfortunately, we recently experienced a break-in, which led to the theft of a bike and a few small items. Fortunately, thanks to the quick actions of the Edmonton Police Service, our local community and social media, the bike was recovered within hours—a result for which we are extremely grateful.

This incident, though resolved quickly, has motivated us to take additional steps to strengthen our security protocols. We want to assure our customers that we are committed to providing a safe environment for their bikes, just as they would expect at home.

What We’re Doing:

1. EPS Agent Program: We’ve enrolled in the Edmonton Police Service’s Agent program, giving officers more authority to address loiterers or potential trespassers in the area.
2. Enhanced Security Systems: We're upgrading our security with more advanced camera and video detection technology, both inside the store and around the building.
3. Improved Signage: To further deter theft, we’re adding more visible security signage throughout the premises.
4. Building Improvements: Our building’s management is also enhancing their exterior surveillance systems.
5. Comprehensive Insurance Coverage: In the event of any unforeseen issues, all store contents—including customers’ bikes—are covered under our insurance policy.

As well, we will continue to promote BikeIndex.org to ensure our bikes and our customer's are registered.  Registration is free and the system enables police services across North America to return recovered bikes to their owners. 

We understand the trust you place in us when leaving your bikes for repairs or service. The importance of that trust has been reaffirmed by our customers, including one who reached out to ensure their bike was safe following the incident. Our commitment to your safety and satisfaction has never been stronger, and we’re taking these steps to ensure that your bikes remain as secure with us as they are in your home.
